It happened in a second
The moment I said I wasn’t ready
They locked me in a glass cage
With only a sledgehammer, nothing else
Wicked torture
To leave my fate up to me
Thoughts exudate in and out
As I lift my hand
And press it against the icy glass
When I pick up
The sledgehammer
Examining it tenderly
Then put it back
Down on the unforgiving
Floor holding unwanted tears
Concluding that
If I don’t break through
Soon enough
My arm will not possess
The strength to shatter
The transparent prison
So I pick up the hammer
Hold it
Fisted, firm in my grip
Swing, shatter, freedom
I’m finally ready.
